Parent Information

Parent Visitation Days: They are scheduled for parents to visit classrooms and see all aspects of the school. Parents should check the school calendar for the dates, come on that day to the office to sign in, get a nametag, map, bell schedule and teaching schedule. They may observe in various classrooms but should not let their visit interrupt the teaching and learning process.

Parent Volunteers: Parent help is welcomed at Terman. Volunteers can choose to be involved in the classrooms, library, office, field trips, chaperoning, fundraising, athletics, etc.
There is a volunteer sign up form in the Back to School Packet.

For parents interested in volunteering, Terman has adopted the following policies.

General Policies:

  • All volunteers must sign-in in the main office. They must wear a visitor’s badge at all times that they are on campus.

Working in the Classroom:

  • Parents may volunteer, under a classroom teacher’s supervision, to help support learning by working with groups or individuals on classroom curriculum and activities.
  • Parents may not do any grading or inputting of grades into grade books or computer programs.
  • Parents may help teachers in working with groups for enrichment and remediation. The enrichment or remediation activities must be developed with and supervised by a classroom teacher.
  • Parent volunteers are expected to keep confidential all dealings with students. Volunteers are encouraged to speak with classroom teachers or school staff about their working with students.

Administrative/Support Work:

  • Parents are welcome to help support teachers by doing administrative type work such as copying, filing, bulletin board displays, etc.

Clubs:

  • Parents are welcome to support a staff member in running a club, or run a club themselves. Please contact the school if you are interested in doing this.

Field Trips:

  • Parents are welcome to help support fieldtrips by driving or helping make arrangements.
  • Please refrain from smoking for the duration of the field trip.
  • A seat belt is required for every student.  Please check that each student is properly buckled.
  • Only students registered at Terman may participate on a field trip.

Field Trip Transportation:
Please complete an auto insurance card for Terman’s files. Minimum auto insurance requirements for drivers are $100,000/$300,000 public liability/bodily injury per occurrence, and $25,000 property damage per occurrence. The number of passengers may not exceed the number specified for your vehicle by the California State Motor Vehicle Code. All drivers are required to have a current driver’s license, current registration and certificate of insurance in their car.

Since we rely upon parent support during field trips, please keep in mind the following guidelines in order to ensure a productive and safe experience for everyone. Parents who have difficulty adhering to these guidelines will be asked to support the school in some other manner.

  • Parent drivers should not be using cell phones on any school sponsored outing except in the event of an emergency.
  • Please refrain from stops at locations other than the field trip destination, including gas stops and personal errands.
  • Parents should not provide students with snacks, drinks or souvenirs.
  • The teacher will determine the transportation arrangements for each child. These decisions are based on group dynamics, previous learning groups and consideration for safety and liability. Changes may not be made without teacher approval.
  • Students are expected to travel by the school-arranged method. Exceptions should be discussed with the teacher and principal as indicated.
  • Unexpected changes such as last minute cancellations, addition of siblings or pets create significant logistical problems and should be avoided. Any exceptions must be cleared with the teacher prior to the field trip.

While on a field trip, parents are an extension of the teacher. As a result, we need you to help supervise, remain focused on the field trip experience, and to model behavior we expect of the students.
