School and Parent Representatives
School Site Council:
The SSC is an elected group of parents, staff and students responsible for developing the annual school plan and allocating school improvement funds from the state. Their peers elect representatives from each group.Parent Teacher Association: The PTA is a national, state, and local parent-teacher association. The Terman PTA plays an important role in keeping parents connected to the school and by:
- Providing for volunteering opportunities in many areas. PTA volunteers assist the school in areas such as: working with the community and school district on traffic safety and bus coordination; assisting in the school office, computer lab or library, tutoring students, chaperoning school events and driving on field trips.
- Supporting the teachers, administrators and staff by sponsoring teacher appreciation events, offering classroom support and funding scholarships and teacher funds for classroom supplies and enrichment.
- Providing parent education and parent network programs during the school year.
The PTA raises money primarily through a Back to School Direct Appeal and the eScrip and Schoolpop programs. At this time, the Direct Appeal is the major source of funds coming directly from the Terman parent community.
- Facilitating home-school communications. Tiger Talk, the monthly newsletter, is a publication of the PTA funded by membership dollars, as is the Student Directory. The PTA also provides e-mail updates of the school calendar, upcoming events, reminders and important school news.
