P.E. and After-School Sports Programs
The physical education program allows students the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities. In addition to the regularly scheduled program, students are encouraged to join intramural teams during lunchtime and to participate in after school athletic programs. Students may check out balls and equipment from the ball closet for use during lunch. Students are expected to wear P.E. uniforms to P.E. every day that they have P.E. There will be P.E. lockers and changing facilities available on campus.
P.E. Uniforms: All Terman students must have a Terman P.E. uniform, which includes P.E. shorts and a P.E. tee shirt, which can be purchased at the beginning of the school year. In addition, students will need to purchase a gym locker lock. Students can use their same gym lock and P.E. clothes each year they are at Terman. Optional sweat pants and sweatshirts may be purchased after school begins. Students should bring their uniforms home to be laundered as needed.
Swimsuits for P.E.: Terman P.E. has a swim unit during the year. The same expectations apply to swim suits as for regular dress code. Simply put, girls should wear a one-piece swimsuit, or a two-piece “tankini” style that covers the midriff. A student may wear a tee shirt to cover up.
P.E. Excuse: See the section on “Health Issues” for P.E. medical excuses.
After-School Sports: The after-school sports program is jointly sponsored by the school district and the City of Palo Alto. Teams at all grade levels play other schools in the league. Parents are needed to drive and bring snacks. Registration forms are included in the Back to School Packet and can also be obtained in the office or visit their website at www.cityofpaloalto.org or the Terman website.
Choice: The three seasons are: Fall (flag football, volleyball, and cross-country); winter (basketball and wrestling); and spring (track and field, wrestling). Coaches distribute uniforms. Terman School does sponsor a Water Polo Club in the spring.
Registration: Sign-ups are handled by the City of Palo Alto by mail or online. Registration begins in August for Fall sports.
Skills Evaluations: Team placements are made at the beginning of each season at Terman after school.
Parent Meetings: The coaches will contact parents regarding team meetings at the beginning of each season. Notice will also be posted in E-news.
Questions: Contact the Palo Alto Recreation Department at 329-2390, or www.cityofpaloalto.org.
